The Experience
The first thing I noticed as we left Agadir was the salty breeze mixing with the dry desert air. Our guide Youssef chatted about Tamri’s dunes—said they’re shaped by both wind and tide, which you could actually see from the way the sand curled along the edges. The drive itself felt like a slow reveal: one minute you’re passing little roadside fruit stalls, next you’re looking out at endless golden hills rolling right up to the Atlantic.
We reached the dunes just before sunset. There’s this quiet hum—wind in your ears, distant waves crashing, a faint scent of mint tea from a nearby Berber camp. Strapping on the board felt awkward at first, but after my first slide (and wipeout), I got into it. The sand was warm underfoot even as the evening cooled off. Youssef showed us how to angle our boards for longer rides, and some local kids joined in, laughing every time someone tumbled.
Between runs, we sat on top of a dune and watched the sun dip behind the ocean. The colors changed every few minutes—orange, then pink, then that deep blue you only get right before nightfall. Someone passed around dates and nuts; honestly, it felt more like hanging out with friends than being on a tour. Heading back, I still had sand in my shoes and couldn’t stop grinning.
