itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Agadir city tour and market visit

  • Stroll Agadir Marina and promenade
  • Explore Agadir Oufella Kasbah ruins
  • Visit Mohamed V Grand Mosque
  • Discover Argan House (optional)
  • Shop at Souk El Had market

We started right at the Agadir Marina, where the air smelled faintly salty and a bit like sunscreen. Our guide, Youssef, greeted us with this easy smile—he’d grown up here and you could tell he really knew every shortcut. Walking along the promenade, I kept getting distracted by all the little details: fishermen mending nets, some old men arguing about football (I think), kids darting between café tables. I didn’t expect it to feel so lively this early.

The drive up to Agadir Oufella Kasbah was quiet except for Youssef’s stories about the old city before the earthquake. The view from up there—well, my phone photos don’t do it justice. You can see the whole bay and those dusty mountains in the distance. There’s still a faint smell of earth and wild herbs on the breeze. Youssef pointed out where his grandmother’s house used to be before 1960; he got kind of quiet for a second. I just stood there taking it in, not really wanting to leave yet.

We passed by Mohamed V Grand Mosque next—didn’t go inside but stopped long enough for Youssef to explain some of the geometric patterns on the walls. He tried teaching us how to say “thank you” in Tamazight; I butchered it and he laughed so hard he almost dropped his keys. For some reason that moment stuck with me more than any fact about architecture.

The last part was Souk El Had, which is just chaos in the best way—spices everywhere (cumin hits you first), leather bags hanging above your head, vendors calling out prices in three languages at once. I wandered off for a bit and found a stall selling fresh dates; they were sticky and sweet and made my hands smell like honey for hours after. We had free time here but honestly I could’ve stayed longer just people-watching or haggling over something random I didn’t need.
