The Experience

After hotel pickup, you drive to the cable car station where your guide hands you the ticket and you board for the ascent to Kasbah Oufella. From the top, the fortress sits above the Atlantic coast and the sprawl of Agadir below—the vantage point is the whole point of starting here. The guide walks you through what you're looking at: the layout of the city, the water, the history of the kasbah itself. Then you descend and move into the day's stops on foot and by vehicle.

The Mohamed V Mosque comes next. You see the exterior and the sculptured walls and doors; your guide explains the religious traditions and the architecture while you have time to photograph the massive entrance. From there you head to the House of Argan Oil, a cooperative where Berber women produce the oil using methods passed down through generations. You learn what the argan tree is, how the oil is extracted, what it's used for—and the shop is there if you want to buy. Then comes Souk El Had, the main market where Agadir residents shop for food, clothing and daily goods. It's the working market, not a tourist version, and you walk through it with the guide.

The whole tour runs three to four hours door to door. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with a live guide, and the pace lets you ask questions and take photos at each stop. The cable car ticket is a choice you make at checkout—some options include it, others don't—so confirm which one you've selected before the day starts.

What’s included

  • an official guide speaking English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language.
