Back in town, we passed through Cité Suisse—neat streets and gardens—and stopped by the city’s biggest mosque. The call to prayer echoed softly as we walked by. Then it was off to Souk el Had. I lost track of time wandering between stalls: piles of oranges stacked higher than my head, rows of colorful slippers, and vendors calling out prices in French and Arabic. There’s this mix of spices and fresh herbs in the air that you just can’t forget.
