The experience
What makes this different from a shared tour is the boat itself. You're not splitting a 30-person catamaran. A private charter means your group (one to six people, depending on which option you book) sets the pace, and the captain adjusts the snorkel sites based on conditions and what you want to see that day. The boat leaves Loreto and heads into Loreto Bay National Park, where Coronado Island sits as a volcanic formation ringed by coral reefs. The water here holds sea turtles, rays, schools of colorful reef fish, and the island itself hosts sea lions and bird species the guide will point out.
You spend roughly three hours in the water across two or three snorkel sessions, with the guide tailoring depth and current to your comfort level. Snorkel equipment (mask, snorkel, fins, life jacket) is provided. Wetsuits are not included but can be rented for $25 per person if you request 48 hours ahead. Between sessions, you rest on the private beach with an umbrella and chair, eating a box lunch (Baja burrito and chips) and drinking from the cooler: two soft drinks, one Gatorade and four bottles of water per person. The national marine park fee ($16 per person) is included in the price.
The charter runs five hours total and operates in English or Spanish with a live guide. Weather can force a reschedule or cancellation, so book with flexibility. Children must be at least six years old and accompanied by an adult. The upper age limit is 90. The trip is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Ground transportation to and from the boat is not included, and tips are separate.
