The experience
The boat leaves Loreto and makes a full lap around Coronado Island before the snorkeling begins. This route is what sets the trip apart from boats that go straight to the beach. You see the sea lion colony, the rocky crags that cover most of the island, and the local wildlife from the water first. The turquoise water around the island has outstanding visibility, so even from the boat you can spot what lies below.
Once the lap is done, the boat anchors at the beach on the southeast corner, where the water is calmest and the snorkeling is best. You get snorkel gear, a box lunch, and as much beer, soda and water as you want while you're there. The island becomes a marine turtle sanctuary at certain times of year when females nest on the beaches, so what you see depends on the season. If you'd rather walk than snorkel, the beach and the island interior have plenty of local plants and animals to find.
The whole outing runs about three hours from start to finish. Transport is air-conditioned and pickup is included from your Loreto hotel. Before you board, you'll pay for the mandatory park bracelet that supports the National Park. This is separate from the activity price.

Is this one for you?The boat circles the island before anchoring, so you spend time watching wildlife and sea lions from the water. If you want straight snorkeling without the boat tour portion, look for a beach-only option instead.
