The Experience

We were barely out of the van when our guide, Sofia, grinned at us and asked if anyone had ever seen a humpback breach before. A couple from Guadalajara raised their hands — I just shook my head. The marina in Cabo San Lucas was already humming, pelicans flapping around fishing boats. The rock glowed gold in the morning light, sea lions barking like old men arguing over breakfast. Sofia told us how locals call it “Land’s End” because if you sailed straight south you’d hit Antarctica — I didn’t fact-check her but it sounded cool. We drifted past Lovers Beach too; some folks waved from kayaks. On the way back to the marina I realized I’d barely taken any photos — too busy just trying to take it all in.
