The experience

You get behind the wheel of a stick-shift UAZ, a four-seat Russian off-road vehicle, and drive north from San Miguel through limestone quarries and cave formations toward Bahia Ciega. The route passes through working sascaberas (limestone extraction sites) and mangrove edges before you reach the boat launch. Once there, you switch from land to water: a quick boat ride carries you and your group to Isla Pasión, a private island in the Cozumel archipelago.

On Isla Pasión, the day opens up. Kayak the shallow bays bordered by mangroves, or settle into one of the hammocks strung along the beach. A Mexican buffet and open bar are included, so you eat and drink without leaving the island. The water stays calm and clear: shallow enough for wading, deep enough for paddling. Other activities are available on-site if you want them. The schedule is yours to set.

The experience runs about four and a half hours total. You'll need a valid driver's license and closed-toe shoes for the driving portion. The operator provides the vehicle and all water gear. Bring reef-friendly sunscreen and UV-protective clothing: the sun reflects hard off the water and sand, and the reef systems here are worth protecting.
