The Experience

The first thing I noticed was the slap of sunlight bouncing off the water as we stepped onto the glass-bottom boat in Cabo San Lucas. Some people swam; I just sat near the rocks watching tiny crabs scuttle around and thinking about how weirdly peaceful it felt so close to all that tourist buzz back in town.

I didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did—Martín told us stories about local fishermen and pointed out which rocks looked like animals (I still don’t see the turtle). On the way back toward Divorce Beach (not as dramatic as it sounds), he asked if anyone wanted another bottle of water “for bravery.” I still think about that view under El Arco—the light coming through made everything look sharper somehow.
