Mauritius 5 Island Speedboat Trip: Snorkeling and BBQ lunch
The longest river in Mauritius ends in a waterfall you reach by boat.
A full-day speedboat tour of Mauritius visits five islands and two snorkeling sites, with a live guide in English or French, snorkeling gear, and a beachside BBQ lunch with drinks included. The boat stops at Ile aux Cerfs for an hour, cruises upriver to the GRSE Waterfall, passes the 19th-century lighthouse at Ile aux Phares and the historic Ile de la Passe, and glides past the protected Ile aux Aigrettes before the snorkel and lunch portion. Dolphins appear on roughly half the trips.
Step-by-step itinerary
Island hopping with lunch and sights
- Stop at Ile aux Cerfs beach
- Cruise up longest river to GRSE Waterfall
- Visit historic Ile aux Phares lighthouse
- Glide past Ile de la Passe islet
- Glide past Ile aux Aigrettes nature reserve
- Snorkel among coral gardens and fish
- Watch for dolphins and turtles
- Enjoy BBQ lunch on secluded beach
The Experience
The day starts at Ile aux Cerfs, where you get an hour to wade into soft white sand and grab complimentary refreshments before the boat moves on. From there the speedboat heads inland up the longest river in Mauritius to the GRSE Waterfall, a powerful cascade that flows straight into the Indian Ocean and is ringed by lush greenery — monkeys often line the riverbanks. The boat then passes Ile aux Phares, a 19th-century lighthouse where the calm lagoon on one side meets the open ocean on the other, and glides past Ile de la Passe, a small islet where a naval battle between French and British forces played out in 1810.
Before lunch, you'll snorkel in a coral garden with tropical fish in warm, clear water; snorkeling gear is provided. Dolphins swim alongside on roughly half the trips. After the swim, the boat pulls up to a secluded beach—often Ile aux Margenie—where a freshly prepared BBQ lunch of chicken, sausage, fish, garlic bread, mixed salad and vegetable options is served right on the sand. Local beer, wine, rum, soft drinks, mineral water and snacks are included throughout the day. A live guide in English or French narrates the stops and shares the history of each island.
