The Experience

Four and a half hours on the water starts with a briefing aboard the speedboat: the skippers walk you through the dolphins you'll encounter, sustainable watching guidelines, boat safety and how the swim works. The order of activities shifts depending on where the animals are that day. You head first to Tamarin Bay, where the skippers enter the water with you for the dolphin encounter—you'll view and swim alongside them in open sea. If time allows, the boat moves to The Aquarium, a snorkeling site with coral and tropical fish where you can use the provided equipment.

Whale watching follows on the open seas. Humpback whales appear off the Mauritian coast between July and September or October as they migrate toward the equator; sperm whales are visible year-round. The skippers maintain a safe distance and follow international best practices throughout, prioritizing the animals' natural behavior over proximity. A 60% sighting rate means whales are not guaranteed, and the operator cannot refund if they don't appear due to fuel costs—something to weigh before booking.

Dolphins show up in almost all departures (at least 90% of the time), and if they don't, you get a free second outing for the dolphin portion alone, lasting 2.5 hours.
