The experience

The catamaran leaves Trou D'eau Douce at 9 a.m. and heads first to the Grand River South East waterfall, about 500 meters upstream. From the boat you'll watch monkeys jump through ancient trees along the riverbank and spot Mauritian fruit bats hanging from the tallest branches. The crew will tell you local stories and play Mauritian music as you travel.

After the waterfall, the boat sails into the crystal-clear lagoon for a snorkeling stop. You'll use provided equipment to swim among coral reefs and tropical fish: sea turtles, hundreds of brightly colored species, and the marine life the lagoon is known for. Once back on board, a barbecue lunch is served on the beach or the catamaran, with unlimited beer, wine, rum, soft drinks, juice and water included. Vegetarian and vegan options are available if you request them when booking.

The afternoon is spent on Ile Aux Cerfs, a white-sand island with palm trees and turquoise water. You can swim, snorkel, walk the beach or simply rest. The sail back to Trou D'eau Douce takes about an hour, arriving around 4 p.m. Hotel pickup and drop-off across Mauritius can be added for an extra cost.
