The Experience
The boat departs for Ile aux Cerfs, the most famous stop, but the day does not end there. You'll also reach the Grande River South East waterfalls, Ile aux Phares and Ile de la Passe — each one showing a different side of Mauritius. The contrast between the calm turquoise lagoon on one side of the islands and the big Indian Ocean waves crashing against the breakers on the other is the geography that makes the route worth the six hours. A snorkeling stop lets you see the marine life in the water instead of just above it.
After snorkeling, the boat takes you to Ile aux Aigrettes for a swim, then back to Ile aux Cerfs where lunch is served. The meal is a local BBQ, and drinks and snacks are included throughout the day. Once lunch is done, the afternoon is yours to relax on the beach, sunbathe or swim in the shallow water. The boat stays anchored long enough that you are not rushed through the end of the day.
Private transportation is included, so you do not arrange your own way to the boat. The guide speaks English or French. Infants sit on an adult's lap; the tour suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.
