The Experience
The day starts at Le Morne Beach, where you board a private speedboat and head into open water to find dolphins. Your guide explains how to approach them safely and what the rules are for swimming alongside these animals without disturbing them. When you reach the pod, you slip into the water to experience what the operator describes as an incredibly moving encounter—face to face with the dolphins in their own environment, not in a tank or a controlled setting.
After the swim, the boat takes you to Île aux Bénitiers, where the crew begins preparing lunch as soon as you arrive. Within an hour you're eating grilled lobster, prawns, fish, chicken, sausages, garlic bread and salads, with banana flambé for dessert. The open bar runs throughout the day—rum, wine, beer, juice, soft drinks and water are unlimited (alcoholic drinks are for ages 18 and up). You have leisure time to rest on the beach, walk the island or explore the lagoons and coral reefs around it.
The final stop is Crystal Rock, a natural rock formation that rises a couple of hundred meters offshore in the southwest lagoons. You snorkel in the clear water around it, with Le Morne Mountain visible from the water. The operator notes that no animals are harmed during snorkeling sessions and emphasizes the educational and therapeutic side of swimming with dolphins in the wild.
