The experience
The boat departs from either Ċirkewwa on Malta's north coast or Mġarr Harbour in Gozo, heading first toward the Cave Without a Roof: a collapsed sea cave with dramatic geological features carved into Comino's cliffs. You'll cruise past the Comino Tower, a 1618 fortification built to defend against invasion, and see towering cliff edges that frame the entire northern coastline. The guide narrates the sights in English as the boat moves between stops.
Crystal Lagoon comes next, anchored for roughly 45 minutes in turquoise water surrounded by caves and cliffs. The visibility is strong enough to snorkel the seafloor. The water is shallow and warm. You can swim directly from the boat or stay on deck. The Blue Lagoon, the tour's centerpiece, holds you for about an hour in the white-sand shallows that made it famous. Some travelers swim from the boat. Others wade from the nearby beach where local vendors sell drinks and food. From there the route passes Ħalfa Rock off Gozo's coast, then turns back toward Comino and Santa Maria Bay: a calm, sandy-bottomed anchorage for another 45 minutes of swimming or floating.
The final stop is Santa Maria Caves, where the boat ventures close enough for you to see the rock formations and narrow passages from the water, and sometimes enter them. Elephant Head Rock, a natural formation shaped like an elephant's head with its trunk reaching toward the sea, marks the return journey back to your starting point. Onboard you have access to a shower, a cooler stocked with ice, a fridge, Bluetooth sound, and a front sunbathing area. Snorkeling equipment is provided.
Is this one for you?Choose the 3-hour short-day option if you want the main lagoons and caves without a full afternoon commitment. Pick the 4-hour half-day if you prefer longer time to swim and explore at each stop. Both departures work from either Malta or Gozo, so pick whichever harbor is closer to where you're staying.
