The Experience

The boat leaves Mellieha in the morning, and within minutes you're past the Comino Tower—the one from The Count of Monte Cristo—and heading toward Crystal Lagoon on the western side of Comino. The water shifts from deep blue to turquoise as you get closer, and the contrast between the golden shoreline and the water is the kind of thing you don't quite believe until you're standing on the deck watching it happen. You get a full hour to jump in, snorkel, or just float and stare at how clear everything is down there.

After Crystal Lagoon, the boat takes you to the Blue Lagoon, where the shallow sandy bottom makes the water glow in shades of blue you've probably only seen in photos. There's over an hour of free time here—long enough to actually explore instead of rushing through. You can snorkel and watch fish move through the water, or stay on the beach if you'd rather not get wet. The lagoon is small, which is partly why it works: you're not fighting crowds the whole time. On the way, you'll pass Gozo and stop for about 45 minutes at Gebla tal Halfa, a rock formation that's worth the photo, then swing by Santa Maria Caves and Elephant Rock before heading back to port.

The boat itself is spacious and has a restroom on board, which matters on a full day out on the water. Snorkel gear is included, so you don't need to bring your own or rent it separately.
