Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1: Mombasa to Tsavo East and Taita Hills

The experience

The safari starts with a 5 a.m. pickup from your Mombasa hotel, then a 100-kilometer drive along the Nairobi highway with a coffee stop before entering Tsavo East at Bachuma gate. Game drives run through the morning across Kenya's largest national park, stopping at Observation Hill for views across the plains. By early afternoon you arrive at Taita Hills Saltlick Lodge for lunch and check-in, then head out again at 4 p.m. for a two-hour evening drive through the sanctuary's thorny bushes and acacia forests, where elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras and giraffes move across the landscape.

Day two begins with an early morning game drive before breakfast, then the drive to Amboseli arrives in time for lunch. The afternoon brings another game drive from 4 to 6 p.m., with Observation Hill offering views toward Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. On the final day, a short game drive follows breakfast before the 300-kilometer return journey to Mombasa, with a lunch stop in Voi. You arrive back at your hotel in the evening.

The minivan seats your group with a trained guide who knows each park's wildlife patterns and routes. Mineral water is provided throughout the drives. Full board means breakfast, lunch and dinner at the lodges each night, plus an extra lunch on the final day. Park entry fees, rescue insurance and all transport between locations are included in the booking.
