The Experience

The tour starts with a drive from Nairobi through the Rift Valley, stopping at the smallest Catholic church in Kenya before arriving at Masai Mara in the afternoon. After lunch and rest at your lodge, you head out for an evening game drive to spot the first herds of wildebeest and other wildlife on the plains.

Day two is a full day in the bush with a packed lunch. The game drives focus on the big cats—lions, leopards, cheetahs, serval cats—and if luck holds, you'll witness an actual hunt and kill. The migration itself is the centerpiece: millions of wildebeest, zebra and antelope moving across the Mara in search of grass, alongside elephants, buffalo, giraffes, impalas, hippos and crocodiles. A picnic lunch is served in the middle of the plains, and you continue driving until evening.

On day three, you leave before dawn with a packed breakfast to watch the sunrise from the plains, then spend another full day driving. The route takes you to the Mara River—called the river of death because of the crocodiles waiting at the crossing—where you'll walk along the bank. An optional hot air balloon safari is available early that morning if you want to see the migration from above. Day four includes a Maasai village visit where you can dance with warriors, learn how they make fire without matches, tour their manyatta houses, and understand how they live alongside the wildlife. Then it's a five-hour drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
