The Experience
Your safari begins with a morning pickup from your Mombasa hotel and a scenic drive inland toward Tsavo East, one of Kenya's largest wildlife reserves. The route crosses Kenyan countryside and small villages before entering the park's open plains. Your first game drive happens the same afternoon, and the landscape is built for spotting—wide grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and the distinctive red dust that coats Tsavo's famous elephants. You'll pass the Galana River and see the Yatta Plateau, which holds one of the world's longest lava flows. By evening you settle into your lodge or camp for dinner under the African sky.
Day two is a full day of game drives. An early breakfast precedes a morning drive through the plains, where the cooler hours bring animals out to feed and drink. Aruba Dam is a prime gathering spot—hippos and crocodiles congregate there, and elephants often pass through. The Galana River area offers another stretch of viewing. A midday break and lunch happen at camp or a picnic spot, then afternoon drives resume as the light shifts and different species become active. Your guide shares what to watch for and why the park's wildlife patterns shift across the day.
On the final morning, breakfast comes before the drive back to Mombasa. The return route retraces the scenic road inland, with arrival at your hotel or designated drop-off expected by early afternoon. Transport throughout is in a 4x4 safari vehicle, accommodation is at Ashnil Aruba Lodge, Satao Camp, or Voi Wildlife Lodge, and your guide speaks English and travels with you for all three days. Breakfast, lunch and bottled water are included each day, along with all park entry fees.
