The experience
The drive south from Amman takes three hours along the Desert Highway, passing through local villages and the city of Wadi Musa before arriving at the Petra Visitors Center. Your driver meets you in your hotel lobby or at the airport arrival hall and handles the route. You sit back in an air-conditioned vehicle stocked with coffee, tea and bottled water. The landscape shifts as you move toward the ancient site, and the approach gives you time to settle into the day ahead.
Once at Petra, you walk into the Siq: a narrow gorge carved by water over millennia, with walls rising on both sides. The passage is long and deep, and as you move through it, the gorge opens suddenly to reveal the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), a massive facade carved directly into the rose-red cliff face. From there, you have roughly six hours to explore the site at your own pace: hundreds of royal tombs, temples, and the Roman Theater, all cut into the same sandstone. The scale of what was built here (and how it was built) becomes clear as you walk among the carved structures.
After you finish exploring, your driver picks you up from the designated drop-off location for the three-hour return journey to Amman, arriving around 7:00 PM. The tour operates with a live guide available in English, Spanish, Italian, French and one additional language if you request it at booking.
