Step-by-step itinerary
Jerash ruins and Dead Sea visit
- Drive from Amman to Jerash
- Explore Jerash Roman ruins
- Visit Dead Sea resort and beach
- Drive back to Amman hotel
The experience
The day starts with a one-hour drive from your Amman hotel to Jerash, where the ruined city spreads across a huge area with virtually no signage. The site's imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres speak to the time when this was an important Roman imperial centre. Walking at a leisurely pace and allowing time to sit on a fallen column and take in the views, you can cover the main ruins in a minimum of two hours. The exposed ruins can get very hot in warmer months, so bring a hat and sunscreen.
After Jerash, you head to the Dead Sea resort to float in the mineral-rich water and relax on the beach. This area is packed with things to do beyond floating: the resort itself has facilities and amenities, and the region holds important sites tied to Old Testament and New Testament history for those interested in that layer of the journey. Lunch is available here if you add it to your booking.
The return drive to your Amman hotel takes another hour. Throughout the day, you travel in modern, comfortable vehicles with an English-speaking driver and bottled water on board. WiFi is available during the journey. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and specialized infant seats can be arranged if needed.

Top questions
What is Jerash and why is it worth two hours of a day trip?
Jerash is Jordan's largest and most interesting Roman site, with ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres that date to when it was an important imperial centre. Even casual archaeology fans find a half-day there rewarding, and the scale of the ruins and the views from the site make it a major tourist draw in Jordan.
Can I hire a guide at Jerash to help me understand the ruins?
Yes, knowledgeable guides are available at the ticket checkpoint for JD30 and can help you navigate the main complex and bring the ruins to life. Given the lack of signage across the huge site, a guide is useful if you want deeper context.
What can I do at the Dead Sea beyond floating?
The Dead Sea resort has beach facilities and amenities on-site. The region also holds important historical sites connected to Old Testament and New Testament history, so you can combine relaxation with cultural exploration if that interests you.
Does the tour include entry to Jerash and the Dead Sea resort?
Entry tickets and the Dead Sea resort swim with lunch are optional add-ons you can select at checkout. The base tour includes transportation, hotel pickup and drop-off, and an English-speaking driver.
How long is the drive from Amman to Jerash?
The drive from your hotel in Amman to Jerash takes approximately one hour, and the return journey is the same. The total tour runs seven to eight hours including time at both sites.
