If you're from Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, or Monaco, you'll need a Japanese translation of your home license from the Japan Automobile Federation instead, but the principle is the same—they take it seriously. Bring your home driving license, your passport, and that IDP in booklet form, or you won't get in.

The route takes you past the major spots: Kaminarimon's red lantern at the entrance to Sensō-ji temple, built back in 942 and still marking the sacred threshold; then through Ameyoko, the market street in Ueno where vendors sell seafood, street food, and souvenirs in a controlled chaos that's been there for decades; Ueno Park itself, where the museums and zoo sit quiet behind the trees; Akihabara's neon electronics district with its anime shops and maid cafes; Kappabashi, the kitchen supply street where chefs buy their knives and plastic food models; and Tokyo Skytree rising 634 meters above everything. You're not getting out at each one—you're driving past them, which is a different kind of seeing. The guide rides with you and speaks English and Japanese, so there's context as you move through the city.

Show up 15 minutes early. They'll wait 10 minutes past your booking time, but after that, the slot goes. Don't wear long skirts, high heels, or sandals—you need to move your feet freely on the pedals. No alcohol before the tour. The go-karts operate on a mechanical system, so if they hit capacity, they might adjust bookings depending on kart availability, which is just how it works when you're renting equipment. If weather cancels the tour, you get a full refund or can reschedule. If you cancel yourself within 24 hours, you lose the money.
