The experience
The tour leaves Tokyo in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with your own English-speaking guide and driver. You stop first at the Chureito Pagoda in Fujiyoshida, where the five-story structure frames Mount Fuji's peak against the sky, then visit the Arakura Sengen Shrine on Mount Fuji's northern slopes. From there, the route heads into the Hakone region, where the landscape shifts from mountain views to geothermal activity and hot spring country.
In Hakone, you take a cruise on Lake Ashi to see Mount Fuji reflected in the water, then ride the Hakone Ropeway from Sounzan Station to Togendai Station. The ropeway climbs over Owakudani, a volcanic valley where sulfurous fumes rise from the earth and the geothermal landscape spreads below. You can also visit Oshino Hakkai, a traditional village with eight spring-fed ponds, historic houses, shops, and watermills set against Mount Fuji's backdrop (a small museum fee applies separately). The full day runs about ten hours from pickup to return.
All transportation, tolls, parking, and gas are included, along with your guide's time. You arrange lunch and drinks on your own at stops along the way. The Lake Ashi cruise and Hakone Ropeway rides are not included in the base price. You pay those fees at each attraction. Public transportation options exist nearby if you prefer to skip any stop.
