Make three dishes: ramen soup you build yourself, gyoza with fresh vegetables, and matcha tea

A two-hour cooking class in Kamakura where you make miso ramen soup from vegetables and chicken, wrap gyoza dumplings, and prepare matcha green tea with dry sweets. The instructor teaches in English or Japanese and welcomes children from age 4. Lunch and dinner are included, along with recipes you take home.

The Experience

You arrive and start with gyoza, wrapping juicy dumplings filled with vegetables. The instructor walks you through the technique so the pleats seal properly. Then you move to the ramen: you'll make the soup stock from scratch using vegetables and chicken, learning the key points that give it an authentic taste without the complexity. The instructor provides a recipe so you can recreate it at home. You also prepare char siu (braised pork), tying the meat with string as part of the hands-on experience.

Once the ramen is ready, you eat what you've made. Toward the end of the class, you sit at the table and whisk matcha green tea casually, then pair it with dry Japanese sweets. The instructor speaks English or Japanese and loves talking about Japanese culture, anime and local sightseeing recommendations: useful if you're planning the rest of your time in Kamakura. Bottled water is provided throughout.
