The experience
The tour starts at 7:45 am from VIP Villa Namba in Osaka, with a 45-minute drive to the Kyoto VIP Lounge where your guide meets you. From there, the day moves through five major stops without requiring you to navigate between them or book separate transport. The Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) comes first: the temple's gold-leaf-covered top floors reflect in the Mirror Pond below, and you walk the landscaped gardens at your own pace. Arashiyama follows, where you move through the Bamboo Forest on foot, cross the Togetsukyo Bridge over the Katsura River, and explore Tenryū-ji Temple's Zen gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in 1339.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is the afternoon's centerpiece: thousands of vermilion torii gates wind up Mount Inari's forested slopes, and you hike through them past stone fox statues and smaller shrines. The route lets you climb as far as you want and stop for photos without a set schedule. After Fushimi Inari, the tour moves to Nara Park, where you encounter the resident deer roaming freely near Tōdai-ji Temple and its Great Buddha (Daibutsu), one of the world's largest bronze Buddha statues. The return journey to your Osaka meeting point closes the day. Note that Fushimi Inari may be skipped during year-end and New Year holidays due to traffic restrictions.
A guide in English or Chinese travels with the group throughout, and you choose at checkout whether to add lunch. The tour suits families with infants (children under 3 ride free if they don't need a seat) and is wheelchair accessible, though the Bamboo Forest and Fushimi Inari involve walking on uneven terrain. Pregnant travelers are not recommended for this itinerary.
What’s included
- Round-trip transfers from your Osaka meeting point to all sites and back.

What is the Golden Pavilion and why is it so famous?
Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto whose top two floors are covered entirely in gold leaf. The gold reflects brilliantly in the surrounding Mirror Pond (Kyoko-chi), creating one of Japan's most photographed scenes. The temple sits within meticulously landscaped gardens with walking paths, pruned trees, and water features that enhance its serene setting.
Can you walk through the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest on your own, or does the group stay together?
You explore the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest at your own pace. The towering green bamboo stalks form scenic pathways where sunlight filters through the canopy, and you're free to wander and photograph without a fixed schedule. The tour also includes time to cross the Togetsukyo Bridge and visit Tenryū-ji Temple's gardens nearby.
What happens at Fushimi Inari Taisha?
Fushimi Inari Taisha features thousands of vermilion torii gates that form tunnels winding up Mount Inari through forested slopes. You hike through these gates at your own pace, encountering smaller shrines, stone fox statues, and bamboo groves along the way. As you ascend, panoramic views of Kyoto open up, and you can explore as far as you wish or rest at quieter spots.
Will I see the Nara deer, and what else is in Nara Park?
Yes, Nara Park is home to friendly deer that roam freely throughout the grounds. The main attraction is Tōdai-ji Temple, which houses the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in the world. The park also features serene ponds, ancient trees, and charming pathways, and you pass through the temple's impressive Chūmon (Central Gate) before returning to Osaka.
Is lunch included, and can I choose?
Lunch is optional and you select it at checkout when you book. The "Day Tour with Lunch" option includes a meal. The "Day Tour without Lunch" option does not. Either way, the tour covers all transport, entry to the sites, and your guide's services.
How much free time do I have at each stop?
The itinerary is designed to give you time to explore at your own pace at each location. You're not rushed through the gardens, temples, or the Bamboo Forest, though the exact duration at each stop depends on group size and conditions. Your guide manages the overall schedule to fit all five major sites into the nine to ten hour day.
