The experience
Pompeii comes first. Your guide meets you at your accommodation and drives you to the archaeological site, where you skip the entrance line. For two hours, you walk the western part of the city with someone trained to read the ruins: the Basilica where public business happened, the Forum where the city gathered, the thermal baths with their heating systems still visible, a bakery with its oven, houses where families lived before 79 AD. The guide explains what each building was and how the eruption of Vesuvius froze the city in a single moment.
After Pompeii, you drive to Mt. Vesuvius. The route takes you to a square at 1,000 meters altitude, where the walking begins. You follow the Gran Cone path upward toward the crater rim, moving at a steady pace through volcanic terrain. The walk is the point, not a quick visit but a real climb that takes you to the edge of the crater itself. On the way, the Gulf of Naples spreads below you. The crater is what you came to see, and you reach it on foot.
The tour assumes moderate fitness. The Vesuvius section involves sustained uphill walking and uneven volcanic ground. Travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns or pregnancy should not book this one. You return to your accommodation at the end of the day, having covered two of the region's most significant sites without arranging transport or entry tickets yourself.
