The experience

The tour starts with Pompei. You arrive at the ruins in the morning and can walk the site on your own, or add a private 2-hour guide for an extra fee to learn the history as you move through the streets. After Pompei, the van takes you to a winery planted at the feet of Mount Vesuvius, where the day shifts from archaeology to food and wine.

Lunch and wine tasting at the winery cost 28–32 euros per person, paid directly to the winery on the day. You'll taste six local wines (three varieties of Lacrima Christy, one Gran Riserva, a dessert spumante, and an apricot distillate), while eating bruschetta, salami and cheese to start, then fresh Setaro pasta with extra virgin olive oil, cherry tomatoes and basil, and finish with pastiera (a traditional Neapolitan cake) paired with two dessert wines. The meal and tasting take up the afternoon.

After the winery, the tour moves to Sorrento for a village visit before returning you to your hotel. The whole day runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off. Private transportation is included throughout. You travel in your own vehicle with no other groups.
