The experience
How do you fit Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast into one day without driving yourself? This tour chains them together in sequence: you leave Amalfi in the morning, spend the middle hours at Pompeii's archaeological sites, then loop back along the coast through Positano and into Amalfi town before returning to your hotel. The driver provides live commentary on board and handles all navigation, tolls and parking. An English-speaking guide is available. If you want a dedicated escort through Pompeii's excavations, you can hire one on-site at the entrance.
Pompeii occupies the bulk of the day. The Forum, the heart of the buried city, sits surrounded by the Temple of Jupiter, the Basilica and the Macellum, all preserved from 79 AD. The Amphitheatre, one of the oldest Roman theatres, dates to 80 BC and once hosted gladiator fights. The Stabian Baths show the layout of a thermal complex with hot and cold rooms, and the Teatro Grande offers a view of Vesuvius from its upper rows. The Lupanar, the ancient brothel with small rooms and erotic frescoes, reveals the texture of daily Roman life. You navigate these sites at your own pace. The driver waits and coordinates a meeting time to move on.
The return leg follows the coast. Positano appears first: a village of colorful houses stacked down a cliff face, with Spiaggia Grande as the main beach and the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, recognizable by its majolica dome, marking the center. A quieter beach, Spiaggia di Fornillo, sits a short walk away through pine-covered alleys lined with shops and galleries. Amalfi itself closes the loop: the Duomo di Sant'Andrea dominates the main piazza with its Arab-Norman façade and ceremonial staircase. The Chiostro del Paradiso, a 13th-century cloister next to it, shows the same Arab influence in its intertwined arches. The Museo della Carta, housed in an old paper mill, documents Amalfi's centuries-old paper-making craft. Marina Grande offers a final stop for a swim or a drink overlooking the water before the drive back.

Is this one for you? This tour moves at a driver's pace, not a walker's: you spend most of the day in the vehicle and at Pompeii's open-air excavations, with shorter stops in Positano and Amalfi town. If you want to linger over a long lunch or spend hours in a single village, a self-guided day works better. If you want to see the archaeological sites and the coast in sequence without navigating yourself, the fixed route and included pickup make it straightforward.

What exactly is inside Pompeii that I'll see on this tour?
Pompeii's Forum is the centerpiece (the political and economic heart of the city) surrounded by the Temple of Jupiter, Basilica and Macellum. The Amphitheatre, dating to 80 BC, once held gladiator fights. The Stabian Baths show the layout of a Roman thermal complex with hot and cold rooms and saunas. The Teatro Grande has views of Vesuvius from the upper seating. The Lupanar, the ancient brothel, displays small rooms and erotic frescoes that reveal daily Roman life.
Do I need a ticket to enter Pompeii, and is it included?
Entrance fees to Pompeii are not included in the tour price and cost approximately 18 euros per person. You'll need to coordinate the entrance time with the tour office before the day of the tour. Bring your identity card. It is required for entry.
What's the difference between Positano and Amalfi on this route?
Positano is a clifftop village famous for its colorful houses stacked down to the sea, with Spiaggia Grande as its main beach and the majolica-domed Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta as its symbol.
