The experience
The tour leaves Amalfi with a private driver who handles the full route to Pompeii, the coastal drive back, and all logistics: tolls, parking, fuel and taxes are covered. You arrive at the archaeological site and explore on your own terms: the Forum with its Temple of Jupiter, the Stabian Baths, the House of the Faun with its Alexander mosaic, the Amphitheatre, and the Garden of the Fugitives where plaster casts preserve the shapes of victims from the 79 AD eruption. Via dell'Abbondanza, the main street lined with shops and houses, runs through the site. A guide can be hired separately at the entrance if you want expert commentary. Otherwise you move through at whatever speed suits you.
After Pompeii, the route follows the Amalfi Coast back toward your starting point. In Positano, you stop to walk Piazza dei Mulini, browse the artisan shops along Via dei Mulini, and see the Church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome. The Spiaggia Grande beach and its panoramic overlook let you photograph the classic view of pastel houses stacked on the cliffs. If time allows, a short climb reaches the Path of the Gods or another terrace with views over the water. Sorrento comes next: Piazza Tasso for its cafes and local energy, the Cathedral with its medieval bell tower, the Cloister of San Francesco with its arched courtyard and garden, and Villa Comunale for the widest panorama over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
The driver speaks English and returns you to your Amalfi pickup point within the eight-hour window. Bring your ID card. It is required to enter Pompeii. The vehicle is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels. Infants can travel in specialized seats or strollers. Coordinate your entrance time at Pompeii with the office before the day so you can buy tickets in advance.
