Make gnocchi alla Sorrentina and tiramisù from scratch on a terrace above the Gulf of Naples.

A pasta and tiramisù cooking class on the Sorrento Peninsula where you learn to make two dishes, visit the vegetable garden, and eat lunch on a panoramic terrace with drinks included. The class runs about three and a half hours and covers your choice of potato gnocchi, ravioli, fresh pasta or pizza, followed by tiramisù, then a full meal with wine or soft drinks and coffee.

The experience

You start with a welcome aperitif and a walk around the restored farmhouse and its garden, then move into the kitchen for a 90-minute cooking lesson. The instructor teaches you to make one of several dishes: potato gnocchi Sorrento style (a Sunday specialty your hosts' grandparents prepared), caprese or lemon ravioli, scialatielli with aubergine and cherry tomatoes, pizza margherita, or eggplant parmigiana. You also make tiramisù. The vegetable garden visit happens during the lesson, so you see where the ingredients come from.

After cooking, you sit on the panoramic terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples and eat what you made. The first course is whatever you prepared in class. You then get a plate of cold cuts and grilled vegetables or caprese, seasonal fruit compote or a house sweet, and drinks: water, a soft drink or wine, and coffee. The whole meal takes about an hour. At the end, you receive a certificate, the recipes you used, and a choice of local products to take home.

The class is available in English or Italian, and pickup is included. The farmhouse is wheelchair accessible, and the site suits all fitness levels.
