The experience

Cantina del Vesuvio sits on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius inside the national park, where three generations of the Russo family have grown Lacryma Christi grapes. The winery's limited production is sold only at the source. You start with a guided walk through the vineyards (a family member explains their history and the methods behind the wine), then move to the winery itself before settling on the terrace for the tasting. From there, you see the entire Gulf of Naples, with Capri Island and the Peninsula of Sorrento across the water.

The tasting pairs five selected Lacryma Christi DOC wines with a three-course lunch: a typical appetizer from the Vesuvius area, homemade spaghetti with Piennolan tomatoes grown on the volcano's slopes, and Pastiera Napoletana. The meal happens on the terrace, so the views stay part of the experience. Private transportation picks you up from your hotel on the Amalfi Coast and returns you at the end of the day.
