The experience
Franco has spent over 25 years guiding people through the Amalfi Coast, and this tour weaves together the two things he knows best: the terrain and the food. The walk starts on one of Positano's signature paths, where you'll pass through rare landscapes and stop at the "Hole in the Rock": a natural formation with its own set of local stories. As you move between sea and mountain, Franco explains the history of the region, the traditions of the Lattari Mountains, and how the old ways of peasant life shaped what people here still eat today. The pace is moderate, and the views are the kind that make you stop talking.
Dinner happens at a family farm, where you choose one dish from each course. The appetizer might be soppressata and cured meats from the farm itself, or eggplant parmigiana. For pasta, you can pick between spaghetti with cherry tomatoes and rocket, spaghetti with Amalfi lemon, carbonara, or rigatoni with ragù and meatballs. The main course runs to grilled farm meats, rabbit cooked in wine, or mussels and clams from Positano waters. Torta caprese closes it out. Red wine, coffee and water come with the meal. Franco stays through dinner, so the conversation doesn't stop when the walk does.
The whole thing (walk and dinner together) takes three and a half hours, which means it fits into an afternoon or early evening without eating your whole day. You'll need a moderate level of fitness for the paths, and if you have food allergies or dietary needs, Franco asks that you mention them when you book. Public transport runs nearby if you need it to get there.
