Step-by-step itinerary
Hike Path of the Gods and food experience
- Start hike from Bomerano, Agerola
- Admire views of Amalfi Coast
- See vertical town of Positano
- Meet local shepherd for food
- Enjoy vegetables, cold cuts, pasta
- Taste fresh goat cheese and bread
- Return to Bomerano to finish
The experience
The hike starts in Bomerano, a hamlet in Agerola, and runs as a loop back to the same point in 4 to 5 hours. The first stretch opens onto the vertical face of Positano and the islands offshore, with shade from elm and oak trees and the scent of myrtle and juniper. The path crosses wild precipices dotted with caves and small vineyards, the kind of terrain that makes the Amalfi Coast famous and difficult to reach any other way.
Partway through, you arrive at the shepherd's hut, where he prepares lunch from what he grows: a plate of pasta with fresh tomatoes, local cold cuts, seasonal goat cheese, bread and red wine. This is not a restaurant stop. It is a working farm, and the meal is what the land around you produces. After eating, the hike continues back to Bomerano.
A certified mountain guide leads the group in English, Spanish or Italian. Children from age 8 are welcome. You'll need proper hiking shoes with a thick, sculpted sole. Sneakers alone won't grip the steep sections. The minimum group size is four participants for the hike to run.
