The Experience

I was honestly a bit nervous as we waited outside the Starhotels Terminus in Naples—maybe because I’d seen Vesuvius from the city and it just looks so... there. By then my feet were sore but my head was buzzing with all these half-formed images of ancient lives layered under dust and sunlight. We ended somewhere near the Teatro Piccolo—I lost track because I kept stopping to look at shadows on old stones or listen to our guide’s stories trailing off into little side notes about her own digs in the area.

I still think about standing at the edge of Vesuvius’ crater, wind whipping my hair around, trying to picture what it sounded like when everything changed in 79 AD.
