The experience
The workshop happens inside an ancient traditional house in the center of Orgosolo, framed by the characteristic murals that cover the streets. You'll work with a live Italian-speaking guide who teaches the full process of making Su Pane Tostu, the local name for carasau bread, from the first handful of dough to the finished loaf. The museum itself houses the old tools used for centuries to produce this bread and s'ispianada, the esplanade where it was traditionally laid out to dry.
Your hands do the work: kneading, rolling the dough thin, and watching it bake in the wood-fired oven. The guide shares the techniques and secrets passed down through generations, and you'll listen to local stories woven into the experience. Afterward, you taste the bread you made, warm and crisp, alongside local cheeses made by shepherds in the area and a glass of Cannonau, the wine that defines Sardinian tradition. A short film featuring three elderly residents of Orgosolo plays during the tasting, adding another layer to the history you've just learned to make with your own hands.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How long does the bread workshop take?
The workshop runs for about an hour and a half, including the hands-on baking and the tasting afterward.
What exactly is carasau bread and why is it important in Sardinia?
Carasau bread, also called Su Pane Tostu, is a thin, crisp flatbread that has been a staple of Sardinian life for centuries, especially among shepherds who could carry it for long periods without it spoiling. The Bread Museum in Orgosolo documents nearly two centuries of this tradition, with the earliest recorded evidence dating to 1848.
Will I need to speak Italian to join the workshop?
The workshop is conducted in Italian by a live guide, but you can request an English-speaking guide when you book by contacting the operator directly.
What do I get to eat and drink during the experience?
You taste the carasau bread you've just made, served warm with local cheeses produced by shepherds in the area and a glass of Cannonau wine, the prized red wine that is a symbol of Sardinian tradition. Minors under 18 can request water instead of wine.
Is the Bread Museum itself worth seeing, or is it just a backdrop for the workshop?
The museum is a main part of the experience. It houses the ancient utensils used for bread production over the centuries and is set inside a beautifully preserved building from the period around 1848, located in the heart of Orgosolo among the town's famous murals. A short film featuring elderly residents sharing their memories of the craft plays during your visit.
