This wine tasting and cellar visit between Langhe and Monferrato puts you in the hands of Federico, the owner and fourth-generation producer at Bussi Piero winery. You walk the vineyards with him, tour the cellars and aging areas, then sit on a panoramic terrace to taste six wines (Piedmont Chardonnay, Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Asti, Moscato d'Asti and others depending on what's in stock) paired with local cured meats, cheese, hazelnuts and hazelnut cake. The whole experience runs about 90 minutes and happens in English, Italian or French.

The experience

What makes this different from a standard winery visit is that Federico himself leads every part of it. You're not handed off to a staff member or a generic guide: the owner walks you through his vineyard first, pointing out what the soil and climate here actually do to the grapes. That short walk sets up everything that comes next, because you've already seen where the wine starts.

Then you move into the winery proper. Federico takes you through the areas where fermentation happens, where the wine ages, and where it gets bottled. You're seeing the actual setup, not a video or a diagram. After that you climb to the panoramic terrace that overlooks the Monferrato vineyards (the same view that's been part of this place for generations), and sit down to taste. Six glasses come out, and Federico talks through each one as you taste it. The wines shift depending on what's available that day, but the lineup typically includes Piedmont DOC Chardonnay, Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Calosso DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore, and Moscato d'Asti DOCG. A small platter of local products (cured meats, cheeses, breadsticks, toasted hazelnuts from the property, and the winery's own hazelnut cake) sits alongside the glasses.

The whole thing takes about an hour and a half. The terrace is accessible by wheelchair, and all areas of the winery are too, so mobility is not a constraint here.
