Etna Wine Tour: 3 Wineries with Food Tasting from Taormina
Three Etna wineries, three sommeliers, ten wines and the views that made the slopes famous
A private 6-hour wine tour of Mount Etna's slopes visits three working wineries where sommeliers guide tastings of white, rosé and red DOC wines paired with fresh local food. Hotel or port pickup is included from Taormina, Catania or Messina, and the tour runs with a minimum of two adults; groups up to eight can book the semi-private option. All wine, food and entrance fees are covered in the price.
The Experience
Your driver picks you up at your hotel or port and heads into the Etna foothills, climbing through villages built of lava stone where orange and lemon plantations, olive groves and almond trees fill the slopes. The road itself is part of the day—the views open as you gain elevation. At the first winery, a sommelier walks you through the production process and pours three Etna DOC whites and rosés, paired with local bread rolls filled with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. You taste from a terrace overlooking Mount Etna itself.
The second stop brings a different winery and a different sommelier. Here you taste four regional wines with a traditional tagliere—a wooden board of local cheeses, cured meats, olives and fresh bread. The third venue has its own character: a winery with what the operator calls authentic charm, where you taste three more reds and whites with fresh domestic appetizers—locally made cheeses, meat delicacies, olives, olive oil and bread. By the end of the afternoon, you've moved through ten wines, three food pairings and three separate producers, each one explaining their own corner of Etna's volcanic terroir. Your driver brings you back to your accommodation.
The tour runs private—just your party—and the driver speaks English or Italian. Transportation is in a comfortable air-conditioned car or minivan depending on group size. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. Because this is a private tour, the exact departure time is confirmed directly with you after booking, so you can fit it into the rest of your schedule.

What are Etna DOC wines and why is Mount Etna known for wine?
Etna DOC refers to wines produced in the designated region around Mount Etna, protected by European origin standards. The volcano's fertile soil, enriched by past eruptions, creates conditions the operator notes as among the world's finest for grape cultivation, and the wines from these three wineries appear on top lists of premium wine associations.

What food is included with the wine tastings?
Each of the three wineries pairs wines with different local foods: the first offers bread rolls filled with sun-dried tomatoes and olives; the second serves a traditional tagliere of cheeses, cured meats, olives and bread; the third provides fresh domestic appetizers including locally made cheeses, meat delicacies, olives, olive oil and bread.
Which pickup location should I choose?
You choose your starting point at checkout: Taormina, Catania or Messina. The tour departs from your hotel or port in whichever city you select and returns you to the same location after the 6-hour tour ends.
