The Experience

“You want real coffee or kopi tubruk?” Pak Agus grinned at me in the dark outside our guesthouse near Borobudur. It was barely 4am and the air felt thick with dew, grass sticking to my sandals as we shuffled toward Setumbu Hill. The sky was still black but you could hear birds starting up—somewhere a rooster losing its mind. We sipped that gritty Javanese coffee (I probably made a face) while waiting for the first streaks of sun over the volcanoes.
