The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Seminyak hotel or villa, then heads south in a restored Volkswagen safari car: the kind with an open roof and bench seating that lets the wind through. The first stop is Garuda Wisnu Kencana Culture Park, perched 300 meters above the shoreline on the Bukit Peninsula. The focal point is a 126-meter statue of Garuda Wisnu Kencana, taller than the Statue of Liberty, with views across Jimbaran Bay and the Indian Ocean to Mount Agung and Mount Batur in the distance.

From there the route moves to Dreamland Beach, a 100-meter stretch of white sand backed by steep stone cliffs and known for both beach and reef breaks. Then to Padang Padang Beach, another popular surf point with white sand and views of the Indian Ocean. Lunch (Indonesian set menu) comes partway through if you choose the all-inclusive option. The afternoon leads to Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali's six key temples, built on a cliff roughly 70 meters above sea level and crowded by sunset. The day ends with a Kecak fire dance performance at the temple: a traditional Balinese art form that originated in the village of Bona and combines chanted sounds with movement.
