The experience
Mount Rinjani sits at the center of this trek, and the route spirals through its different faces. You start at Sembalun Crater Rim, arriving around 4 PM to watch the sunset and eat dinner before sleeping in camp. At 2 AM you wake for the summit push. A climb that takes roughly three hours. You reach the peak around 6 AM to see the sun rise over Lombok, Bali and Sumbawa, a moment that lasts 30 to 45 minutes before the descent begins. The real reward comes next: Segara Anak Lake, a crater lake so clear you can swim in it, sits deep inside the mountain. You arrive around 10:30 AM, spend four to five hours swimming and soaking in the natural hot springs nearby, and eat lunch on the shore. That evening you trek to Senaru Crater Rim on the opposite side of the mountain, camp again, and wake for a sunrise breakfast before a five-hour rainforest descent to Senaru village, where you arrive by 1 PM.
Your private guide speaks English and manages the whole operation: meals appear at camp, a toilet tent is set up, sleeping bags and mats are provided, and a local porter carries the shared load. Hotel accommodation for one night before or after the trek is included, along with entrance fees to Mount Rinjani National Park. You bring your own trekking shoes, poles, jacket, gloves and headlamp. The guide brings everything else. Pickup and return transport from your hotel in Lombok is included, so the trek starts and ends at your door.
