The experience
The trek starts with a 45-minute transfer to Sembalun village and registration at Rinjani Information Center, then climbs through five marked positions over two days to reach the crater rim at 2,639m. Day one covers roughly six hours of walking in stages, with lunch and a two-hour rest at POS 3, ending at camp on the Sembalun Rim where you watch the sunset. Day two begins at 3am with a light breakfast before the final push to the summit: a steep three-hour-twenty-minute climb that puts you at 3,726m as dawn breaks. From the peak you see across Lombok, Bali and Sumbawa, then descend back to camp for breakfast before the longer walk down to Segara Anak Lake, a crater lake fed by hot springs.
At Segara Anak Lake you swim in the natural hot spring water, which sits 100m from the lake itself, and eat lunch by the water. The final day descends from the crater rim of Senaru over three hours, with lunch on the way, arriving back at Senaru Rrijani Trekking Centre around 1pm. From there you can arrange onward transfer to Senggigi, Mataram or Bangsal harbour for the Gili Islands. All overnight camps use double-size tents with sleeping bags and mattresses. A portable toilet tent and cooking set travel with the group. Your guide keeps the atmosphere alive and handles logistics. Porters manage the food and camp setup.
Trekking insurance and the national park entrance fee are included in the price. You can choose to rent trekking shoes and poles at checkout, or bring your own. The route offers variety: Sembalun, Senaru and Torean routes are available depending on your preference and park authorization. Pickup is included from your accommodation in the starting village.
