The Experience

Your driver picks you up from your Seminyak hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and heads north into Bali's farming heartland. The first stop is Twin Lakes Tamblingan and Buyan, set at nearly 4,000 feet elevation and surrounded by coffee plantations, vegetable fields and traditional rice paddies. These lakes are central to local life—villagers fish, farm and ferry visitors by dugout canoe to 31 temples scattered around the shoreline—yet they remain quieter than the better-known Lake Bratan a few miles east.

From there you move to Handara Gate, an ornate Balinese gateway that has become one of Bali's most photographed spots. The gate sits within a resort and golf club, framed by green hills and traditional architecture that makes for striking photos. Next is Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, a significant sanctuary on the western shore of Lake Beratan in Bedugul. The temple is one of Bali's most iconic landmarks, sharing the scenic weight of seaside temples like Tanah Lot and Uluwatu. Lunch is served at a restaurant near the temple (included on the all-inclusive option). After eating, you drive to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces at the foot of Mount Batukaru—dramatic, layered landscapes that rank among Bali's must-see natural panoramas. The cool highlands and photo opportunities make this a soothing retreat from the crowded south.

The afternoon continues to Penatahan Hot Springs, where thermal waters from Mount Batukaru flow down the hillside into a central main pool adjacent to a river, with smaller pools arranged along the banks. The final stop is Tanah Lot Temple, an ancient Hindu shrine perched on a rocky outcrop surrounded by crashing waves and one of Bali's most recognizable icons. The onshore site has smaller shrines, restaurants, shops and regular cultural dance performances. Your driver returns you to your Seminyak hotel as the day ends.
