The Experience
Your day begins before dawn with breakfast overlooking the rice paddies near Ubud—pancakes, omelets, juice, coffee and tea while the landscape is still quiet. After eating, you're driven to Kintamani to see Mount Batur's crater lake, a view guests often call the most stunning in Bali. The volcano is active, and the vantage point frames the whole caldera and the water below it. Back at the starting point, you choose a bike, adjust it to fit, and your guide walks through the equipment and the rules of the road.
The ride itself stays on small village roads and runs almost entirely downhill, so the pedaling is easy and the pace lets you take in the rural landscape without fighting traffic or crowds. You stop at three main points: a large village temple where you learn about sacred Balinese traditions; a traditional family compound where you see how locals live; and a stretch of lush rice paddies where you walk on the paths between the fields. If farmers are harvesting, you'll watch them work. The stops are built in for photos and for the quiet that mass tourism usually erases from Bali.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant set among the rice fields—Balinese dishes, with vegan and vegetarian options available, plus ice cream or fresh fruit for dessert. Mineral water is provided throughout the day. The ride ends with a return to your hotel in an air-conditioned car, so you don't pedal back uphill.

Can I book this tour if I'm staying in South Bali instead of Ubud?
Yes. Pickup is available from both the Ubud area and South Bali, though the South Bali option means a longer drive to the starting point. Choose your pickup location when you book.
What is Mount Batur and why do we stop there?
Mount Batur is an active volcano near Ubud, and the tour takes you to Kintamani to see its crater lake—a caldera filled with water that guests often describe as the most stunning view in Bali. You stop there before the bike ride begins, so you see the landscape from above before you ride through it.
How difficult is the cycling, and do I need to be an experienced rider?
The route is almost entirely downhill on quiet village roads, so it's not technically demanding. You do need at least a moderate level of physical fitness, and the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Children are welcome from age 5.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
Breakfast and lunch, hotel pickup and return, a professional English-speaking guide, bike and helmet, entry tickets to all stops, a cold face towel, mineral water, and a rain poncho if needed are all included. Personal insurance covers up to 2,500,000 IDR for ages 5 to 65. Bring sunscreen, a camera, and comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dusty.
How long is the full day, and what time does it start?
The tour runs 7 to 8 hours total. It starts early with breakfast before the ride, so you'll be picked up from your hotel in the pre-dawn hours to reach Mount Batur for the sunrise view.
Will I see farmers in the rice fields, or is that not guaranteed?
The tour includes a walk through the rice paddies, and the guide notes that if you're lucky, you'll see farmers harvesting. It depends on the season and the day, but the fields themselves are always there for photos and for the peaceful walk between them.
