The Experience
Your driver meets you at the Benoa Port guide area holding a sign with your name, then drives you inland toward Ubud. The route takes in Batuan Temple first—nearly a thousand years old, built in 1020 AD and still the oldest temple on the island, with its distinctive coconut-fiber roof and Balinese stone ornaments. You'll wear a sarong provided for entry, and the driver explains the temple's role as a Puseh temple in the island's spiritual geography.
From there the day moves through natural and cultural stops. Tegenungan Waterfall sits near Ubud with a pool for swimming if you want it. The rice terraces at Tegalalang spread across the valley slopes in the subak system—the traditional Balinese irrigation method—and the roadside location is cool and high enough to see across the whole landscape; this is where most visitors stop to photograph. Between the waterfall and the terraces, you'll visit a plantation showing tropical crops (coffee, cacao, pineapple, durian, jackfruit) where they demonstrate how Balinese coffee is made the traditional way and you can taste it fresh with a view of the river valley below. A swing is there if you want to try it. Lunch comes with a rice terrace view and an Indonesian menu.
The final stop is Celuk Village, an art village known for gold and silver jewelry work, and the tour includes a look at batik collections and hand-woven textiles before the driver returns you to the port. The whole route is in an air-conditioned vehicle, and you get bottled water throughout. Because the tour is private, the timing adjusts to your ship's departure window—the driver knows when you need to be back.
