The Experience
Your day starts with pickup from your Udaipur hotel or the railway station, then a 3-hour drive to Kumbhalgarh Fort. The fort was built by Rana Sangha in the 15th century and holds the distinction of having the second-longest defensive wall in the world — 36 kilometers of stone that wraps the hilltop. Inside the fort complex stand a Ganesh temple and a Jain temple, remnants of the Mewar dynasty's architectural ambition. The guide walks you through the site and its history while you take in views across the Aravalli range.
From the fort, you head to Ranakpur Jain Temple in the same mountain range. This temple took 65 years to complete and spans 4,500 square yards across 29 halls, all built with the intricate stone carving the Jain tradition is known for. The temple is dedicated to Tirthankara Rishabhanatha and draws pilgrims from across India; you'll also see the large monkey colony that lives in and around the complex. The guide explains the temple's architecture and its significance in Jainism.
After the temple visit, you have the option to add a Jeep safari through the jungle surrounding Ranakpur — a separate booking that lets you move through the landscape on your own terms. Once that's done (or if you skip it), the driver takes you back to Udaipur and drops you at your hotel or preferred location. The whole day runs about 10 hours from pickup to drop-off.
