The experience
Your guide meets you at your hotel and walks the day's route before you start. The morning opens at Victoria Memorial, the white marble monument built for Queen Victoria, surrounded by gardens and filled with paintings and sculptures that trace India's cultural past. St. Paul's Cathedral follows, a Gothic church with stained glass windows that mark the colonial era. Fort William, the British East India Company's original stronghold, now anchors the Eastern Command headquarters and stands as a preserved record of that period.
After lunch, the tour crosses the Howrah Bridge, an engineering landmark that connects Kolkata and Howrah and frames the Hooghly River below. Then come the two temples: Dakshineswar Kali Temple sits on the river's eastern bank with intricate architecture and a quiet atmosphere, while Kalighat Temple, believed to date to the 12th century, draws devotees to one of Kolkata's oldest shrines. Mother Teresa's House preserves her personal belongings and photographs, documenting her life and the work of the Missionaries of Charity. The day ends with a stroll down Park Street, the city's most active stretch of restaurants, cafes and shops, before your guide returns you to the hotel.
The tour runs roughly six to nine hours depending on your pace and which stops you linger at. Your private car stays available throughout, and bottled water travels with you. You pick your option at checkout: the car and guide alone, or add entrance fees, lunch, or both. Camera charges at some monuments fall outside the package.
