The experience
The tour runs nine to ten hours and covers ten stops across Kolkata's neighborhoods. You start with hotel pickup, then move through the city's layers: the Mother House of the Missionaries of Charity, where Mother Teresa's work began; the Marble Palace, a nineteenth-century mansion built from the stone its name describes; the Flower Market, where traders and locals buy blooms in bulk; and Howrah Bridge, the cantilever span that connects Kolkata to Howrah across the Hooghly River. The guide speaks English, Hindi or Bengali and travels with you the whole day.
The route also reaches Eden Gardens, the second-largest cricket stadium in India, and Kumartoli, a traditional potters' quarter where artisans shape clay idols year-round and especially during Durga Puja. You'll see Prinsep Ghat, built in 1841 along the river during the British Raj, and pass the Victoria Memorial, the colonial monument that anchors the city's identity. The itinerary includes Parasnath Jain Temple for its architecture and quiet space. Breakfast, coffee or tea and bottled water come with the booking.
Choose between a bike or a car at checkout. The Mother House closes on Thursdays, so the guide will adjust the route if that's your travel day. Public transportation options exist nearby if you need to add stops or change plans during the day.
