Jodhpur guided city tour: Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada
Walk through a 15th-century fort and an 18th-century stepwell with someone who knows the stories behind them
This is a guided city tour of Jodhpur led by an experienced guide in English, Italian or Hindi, covering Mehrangarh Fort (built in 1459 and now a museum), the white-marble Jaswant Thada memorial, an 18th-century stepwell, Rao Jodha park and the local market. The tour runs three to four hours and includes a water bottle. You arrange your own transport to the starting point.
Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Jodhpur's historic sites and market
- Visit Mehrangarh Fort museum
- See 18th century stepwell
- Explore local market
- Pass by Rao Jodha park
- Visit Jaswant Thada memorial
The Experience
Mehrangarh Fort anchors the tour. Built in 1459 by Rao Jodha, it now functions as a museum where you walk through courtyards, rooms and palaces, seeing the royal collection of palanquins and cradles, a conference hall and a dancing room. The guide explains what you are standing in front of and the history attached to it, which is what separates a walk through the fort from a solo visit with a map.
The stepwell comes next—an 18th-century structure that was one of Jodhpur's main water sources before modern plumbing. You also pass through the local market, where the guide can point out what locals actually buy and use, and Rao Jodha park. The tour closes at Jaswant Thada, a memorial built entirely from white marble imported from Mirana. It was constructed in 1894 by Maharaja Sardar Singh to honor his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, and the marble work is the detail most visitors stop to photograph.
A water bottle is included. The tour takes three to four hours total. You'll need to arrange your own way to meet the guide at the starting point; public transportation options are available nearby in the city.

Is this one for you?You arrange your own transport to the meeting point, which works well if you have a car, a taxi app or time to use local buses. The guide does the explaining and the route-planning, so you walk and listen instead of navigating or deciding what to see next—that's the trade the tour makes.
