Then you stop at a historic stepwell with symmetrical stairways, a rainwater catchment that shows how the region managed water before modern systems. The stepwell's geometry is the kind of detail most tours skip, but it reveals how the palaces and forts were built to last.

The final stop is Jal Mahal, a palace in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Maharaja Jai Singh II renovated and enlarged it in the 18th century. You view it from the shore—the lake and palace together are the photograph most visitors come for. After that, the driver takes you back to anywhere in Jaipur you want to be dropped.
