  • Pickup in modified super jeep
  • Visit Þingvellir National Park
  • Explore Geysir hot spring area
  • See Gullfoss Waterfall
  • Gear up for snowmobiling at glacier base camp
  • One-hour snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier
  • Swap drivers halfway through ride
  • Scenic drive back to Reykjavík

The Experience

The day starts with a Super Jeep pickup in Reykjavik and heads straight to Þingvellir National Park, where you'll see the rift valley created by the American and Eurasian tectonic plates pulling apart. From there the route moves to the geothermal area around Geysir, where the hot spring Strokkur erupts every 4 to 10 minutes, sending water up to 25 meters high. The third stop is Gullfoss, the Golden waterfall, where water rushes down three steps of lava layers—a major photo spot on the Golden Circle.

At the glacier base camp on Langjökull, you'll suit up in a snowmobile overall, balaclava, gloves, ski goggles and helmet. Your guide walks you through the controls and safety before you head out for the one-hour ride across the glacier. Two people share each snowmobile, and there's a halfway stop where you can swap places so both of you get time driving if you want it. A single rider per snowmobile is available for an extra fee, depending on availability.

The full day runs about 11.5 hours from pickup to drop-off in Reykjavik. The itinerary includes time for travel between stops, and you'll have a chance to buy lunch or bring your own during a stop along the way. No prior snowmobile experience is required, and the activity suits all fitness levels—though it's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy.
